Why I Hate the Term “Personal Branding”

I hate the term personal branding.

It has become this marketing act of building a brand based on what other people want to perceive.

First:

You don't need a public personal brand to do well in business. There's a lot of successful people out there that we don't know about.

Second:

There really isn't such a thing as “ building a personal branding”. We already have a personal brand: It is called being who we are. Authenticity is key.

Now you have people saying: “I don't want to do personal branding, it's all so fake.”

Those are the people who actually understand the trajectory of what personal branding is becoming. They don't want to be part of it.

Yet, this damages their opportunities to leverage themselves, their knowledge, and their expertise to provide service and solutions.

So here's my advice:

Don't focus on creating a “personal brand”.
Instead, just create content and stay true to yourself.
